With spring in the air and flowers beginning to bloom, we’re full of anticipation for Mothers Day this Sunday. Taking our inspiration from female artists, we’ve put together a few images of some stand out ceramics and paintings, to feed our imagination.
This first batch of bold, bright, patterns come courtesy of three female art deco ceramicists (images left to right) Charlotte Rhead, Susie Cooper and Claris Cliff.
Painter Georgia O’Keefe is another artist famous for her flower pictures and these three close up images manage to be both soft and striking.
Local ceramicist Lisa Katzenstein takes a very different approach with the florals she uses to decorate her wares. These are done in a more illustrative fashion, using fine lines for an edgier feel.
So, for a Mothers Day to remember this year, why not book a painting slot with Mum and get those creative juices flowing. There’s free tea and cake for all on the day and if that’s not enough to tempt you, here’s a few images of fabulous floral creations from the Painting Pottery Cafe archive.
At the start of this year we had a few journalists stop by to try their hand at some pottery painting and unleash their inner artist. Read all about how they got on here http://bittenbythetravelbug.com/popping-into-the-painting-pottery-cafe-in-brighton/
With Mothering Sunday almost upon us, it’s the same dilemma every year. What do you get for the Mum who has everything? It’s always a challenge knowing what to buy. A traditional bunch of flowers? Some luxury chocolates? Hmmmm, not very inspiring. Maybe this year it’s time to do something completely different…….
Here at the Painting Pottery Cafe, we’re making it our mission to help you give Mum a truly unique and special day. Not only do you get the experience of spending some quality time together, and sharing a fun activity, you’ll also have a keepsake to take home and treasure. And, for added feel good factor, we’re giving free tea and cakes to every Mum painting on the day.
So, drop us a line, book your session and make this years Mother’s Day one to remember (Sunday 18th March, 2012).
It’s not unusual to sit at a blank canvas (or piece of ceramics in our case!) and have absolutely no idea where to begin. So, this week we’ve picked out a few ceramic artists and styles that inspire us. Whether a movement, an old master or a new kid on the block there’s a wealth of stuff out there to fire up our imaginations and get those creative juices flowing.
First up, we’ve gone for the old master himself, Pablo Picasso. So prolific was he that mere canvas alone couldn’t contain his never ending stream of creativity. Eventually spilling over into the 3-d arena of ceramics, Picasso’s work ranges from bold and colourful to stark and simple.
And, along with the two plates at the top of this post, here’s another Painting Pottery Cafe homage to the man and his work.
Next up is West German Studio Pottery from the 1950′s – 1970′s. Recognisable by distinctive bizzare patterns, garish colours, contrasting textures and geometric shapes this style is also known as ‘Fat Lava’ . Love it or loathe it, it’s guaranteed to inspire.
Last but not least is new kid on the pottery block, Grayson Perry. Referencing both Greek and folk ceramic traditions, he decorates his pots with words and pictures with every vessel telling an individual story.
So, drop us a line and book yourself a painting pottery slot to create your very own masterpiece.
Seeing as we’re quite loved up at the moment, we’ve decided to give a 10% discount on all bookings made for between now and the 14th Feb.
